Dr. Melissa Willey, OD
A born and raised Southern Californian, Dr. Melissa Willey, OD is thrilled to be returning to her roots and opening her own optometry practice in The Square in Bressi Ranch, Carlsbad.
Dr. Willey received a Bachelor of Science in Cognitive Neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego before attaining her Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry. After optometry school, she completed a residency in geriatrics and ocular disease at the VA West Los Angeles. Dr. Willey then worked at the world-renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute in at UCLA where she treated a multitude of ocular diseases, in addition to providing comprehensive eye exams and complex contact lens fittings.
Her Vision
Dr. Willey is bringing her vision to life with the launch of Ocean Eyes Optometry. She believes in creating a welcoming space for patients where they feel empowered to take control of their overall wellness—including eye health.
These days, Dr. Willey and her husband live in Carlsbad with their two young children. They love being outdoors and taking in the beautiful sights of Southern California.
Dr. Willey and her team are excited officially join the Carlsbad community and cannot wait to meet you!

Beyond caring for patients, Drs. Willey and Niskanen are dedicated to strengthening the optometric profession. Together, they serve on the Board of the San Diego County Optometric Society, where they collaborate with colleagues to promote education, advocacy, and community outreach.

Dr. Rachel Niskanen, od
A San Diego native, Dr. Rachel Niskanen, OD is excited to join the team at Ocean Eyes Optometry and provide personalized, comprehensive eye care to the Bressi Ranch community.
Dr. Niskanen earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Gonzaga University before receiving her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. During her clinical training, she completed externships in primary eye care, specialty contact lenses, and ocular disease at several respected institutions, including Orange County Retina, the VA Healthcare Systems in Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, Coastal Vision, and Ketchum Health.
Dr. Niskanen enjoys caring for patients of all ages, with a special interest in ocular disease and helping patients better understand their eye health. Outside the office, she enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and their two cats.
