These exams, along with retinal imaging, can detect eye-related conditions including glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. Eye exams can also help detect conditions you may think are unrelated to your vision like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. There are certain types of cancers that can also be detected during a comprehensive exam.
